Alternative · For firms that cannot use cloud
For firms where cloud was never an option.
Some firms are not weighing cloud against offline. A client instruction, a government contract or a risk committee already decided.
The constraints that rule cloud out
If any of these apply, the shortlist is short.
Client instructions forbid it
Institutional clients increasingly restrict processing of their material by third parties. That is an engagement term, not a preference.
Government or defence work
Where the contract dictates where data may be processed, hosted services are excluded before the evaluation starts.
The risk committee said no
Firms that reached a settled position on cloud processing of privileged material need an option that does not reopen it.
Cross-border data location
Where material may not leave a jurisdiction, a machine in the office is the simplest possible answer.
What stays true on every matter
These do not change by practice area, firm size, or the question asked.
Bring the constraint, not the wish list.
If cloud is already ruled out, the useful conversation is whether this does the work — not whether it is more convenient.

The answers below are specific to this page’s subject.
Are there other offline legal AI options?
Some firms build internally on local open-source models. That is a legitimate path with real cost: the corpus, verification, whole-file pipeline and review trail all have to be built and maintained.
What do we give up going offline?
Elastic scale, and improvements arriving without you doing anything. Updates are deliberate, which is slower by design.
Can this satisfy a client's data-location requirement?
The material stays on the workstation in your office, which is the strongest form of data-location control available. Whether it satisfies a specific clause is a question for that clause, and we will answer it directly.
How quickly can we be running?
Once the workstation is specified and bought, installation is straightforward. Hardware procurement is usually the longest step.
